What is Water Treatment?
Water treatment methods include physical treatment and chemical treatment.
Physical methods include using filter materials with different pore sizes to remove impurities in the water by adsorption or barrier methods. The most important adsorption method is adsorption with activated carbon. The barrier method is to pass water through the filter material so that larger impurities cannot pass through, thereby obtaining cleaner water. In addition, physical methods also include precipitation methods, which is to let impurities with smaller specific gravity float on the water surface and be fished out, or impurities with larger specific gravity settle below and then be obtained.
Chemical methods use various chemicals to convert impurities in the water into substances that are less harmful to the human body, or to concentrate impurities. The oldest chemical treatment method should be to add alum to the water. After the impurities in the water are gathered, the volume becomes larger, and the impurities can be removed by filtration.
The purpose of water treatment is to improve water quality and make it meet certain water quality standards.
According to different treatment methods, there are many types of physical water treatment, chemical water treatment, biological water treatment, etc.
According to different treatment objects or purposes, there are two major categories: water supply treatment and wastewater treatment. Water treatment includes domestic drinking water treatment and industrial water treatment; wastewater treatment includes domestic sewage treatment and industrial wastewater treatment. Among them, boiler feed water treatment, feed water treatment, turbine main condensate treatment and circulating water treatment, which belong to the category of industrial water treatment, are particularly closely related to thermal technology.
Water treatment is of great significance to the development of industrial production, the improvement of product quality, the protection of human environment and the maintenance of ecological balance.
